La maison originale a \\u00e9t\\u00e9 construite en 1845 sur le chemin du moulin, qui porte d\\u00e9sormais le nom de rue Provancher en hommage \\u00e0 l\\u2019abb\\u00e9 L\\u00e9on Provancher, pr\\u00eatre et naturaliste qu\\u00e9b\\u00e9cois. Afin de r\u00e9duire le parcours et d'att\u00e9nuer les courbes et les pentes, la compagnie choisit un trac\u00e9 qui traversait la rivi\u00e8re du Cap Rouge. La construction d'un viaduc ou pont sur chevalets s'impose alors. Les travaux sont r\u00e9alis\u00e9s entre 1906 et 1913. \u00c0 la suite de l'ouverture du pont de Qu\u00e9bec, en 1917, le tracel (du mot anglais <em>trestle<\/em>) peut enfin \u00eatre utilis\u00e9.<\/p><p>Haut de 50 m\u00e8tres (176 pieds) et long de plus de 1 kilom\u00e8tre, (3 335 pieds) l'ouvrage compte 30 piliers et p\u00e8se 4288 tonnes. On voit r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement des trains de marchandises traversant le tracel \u00e0 vitesse r\u00e9duite. La pr\u00e9sence de poterie iroquoienne et de restes de plantes attestent d\u2019\u00e9changes entre Fran\u00e7ais et Autochtones.
